Signs to active roster
The Broncos signed Burton to their active roster Wednesday, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Burton will remain with the Broncos' active roster after playing 36 total snaps (10 offensive and 26 on special teams) during the team's regular-season opener. In a corresponding move, the Broncos' placed rookie running back Audric Estime (ankle) on injured reserve.

Back with practice squad
Burton reverted to the Broncos' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Analysis: Burton was elevated to the active roster prior to Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Seahawks. The fullback caught his only target for three yards while playing 10 of the team's 69 offensive snaps. Additionally, he logged an assisted tackle on kick coverage while playing 26 snaps on special teams. Denver can elect to elevate Burton two more times before the Broncos would have to officially sign him to the 53-man roster.

Back with Broncos
Burton signed with the Broncos' practice squad Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Burton appeared in all 17 regular-season games for Denver last season, operating as the team's fullback and a regular on special teams. However, he wasn't able to make the final cut this year, his 10th in the NFL. The Rutgers product likely has a good chance of ultimately finding his way to the 53-man roster this season.

Cut by Broncos
Burton was released by the Broncos on Tuesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official website reports.
Analysis: Burton operated as Denver's starting fullback in 2023, turning seven carries into nine rushing yards while producing eight receiving yards on three catches over 17 games. He will now attempt to start somewhere new in his 10th year in the NFL.

Gets two touches in Week 14
Burton played 14 of the Broncos' 67 snaps on offense and carried once for two yards and hauled in his lone target for a one-yard gain in Sunday's 24-7 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Burton has been active for all 13 of the Broncos' games to date, but Sunday's contest marked just the second time that he's logged more than one touch on offense. The 14 snaps were also one shy of a season high, and Burton will likely continue to have a limited role in a Denver offense that doesn't make frequent use of a fullback.

Stuck in blocking role
Burton went without a carry or target while logging 12 of the Broncos' 75 snaps on offense in Monday's 24-22 win over the Bills.
Analysis: Like most fullbacks around the league, Burton rarely contributes as a ball carrier or pass catcher and primarily operates as a lead blocker when he's on the field. Despite being active for all nine of the Broncos' contests to date, Burton has just four carries (for three yards) and one reception (for three yards) to his name.

Lands in Denver
Burton is set to sign a one-year deal with the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Burton will reunite with head coach Sean Payton, whom he played for in New Orleans in 2020. As a member of the Chiefs during the 2022 campaign, the veteran fullback handled five carries for seven yards and caught two of three targets for 11 yards. Burton likely won't see enough touches on offense to be a viable fantasy option in 2023.

No yardage in Week 14
Burton played four snaps on offense and carried once for no gain in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Broncos.
Analysis: Burton picked up his first touch on offense since Week 10, when he carried once for a minus-1 yard in the Chiefs' victory over the Jaguars. The fullback remains scarcely used on offense and has accounted for only 18 yards from scrimmage on his seven touches (five carries, two receptions) this season.

Plays two snaps on offense
Burton lost one yard on his lone carry in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Burton remains a core special-teams contributor for the Chiefs, but as the lone fullback on the roster, he typically takes on only a light role on offense. He hasn't played more than nine offensive snaps in any game this season and has just six touches through his nine appearances.

Handling limited role on offense
Burton carried once for two yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: The fullback has played just 21 total snaps on offense through the Chiefs' first three contests and has gained eight yards on two carries and another two yards on a reception. Regardless of what other skill-position players the Chiefs may lose to injuries as the season unfolds, Burton is unlikely to be little more than a bit player on offense in 2022.

Remaining in Kansas City
Burton re-signed with Kansas City on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Burton spent the 2021 season with the Chiefs, and he earned the majority of his playing time on special teams. That should remain the case in 2022, though he did rush the ball eight times for 26 yards while also tallying the first rushing touchdown of his career last season.

Set to return Monday night
Burton (pectoral) has no injury designation heading into Monday night's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Burton missed one game with the issue but was able to put in limited practices all week prior to a full one Friday. He'll return to his primarily special-teams role.

Won't play Sunday
Burton (pectoral) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burton was added to the injury report with the pectoral issue this week and will be sidelined for at least one game. The 29-year-old hasn't played more than five offensive snaps in a game this season, so Kansas City's gameplan for this weekend will remain largely unaffected by his absence.

Absent from practice Thursday
Burton (pectoral) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Analysis: Burton has had a minimal role across the first six weeks of the season, but he's dealing with a pectoral injury that has forced him to miss the last two days of practice. He'll presumably need to return to practice in some capacity Friday if he hopes to suit up Sunday against the Titans.

Latches on in Kansas City
The Chiefs and Burton agreed to terms on a contract Thursday, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Burton appeared in 15 games with the Saints last season, in which span he recorded a career-high seven carries for 18 yards. He also had four catches for 28 yards. While Burton could also get occasional offensive touches with the Chiefs, his main method of contributing will be as a blocker.

Limited touches in 2020
Burton recorded seven carries for 18 yards and four receptions for 28 yards during the regular season in his first campaign with the Saints.
Analysis: The 11 touches were his first in two seasons after he failed to touch the ball in 2019 with Washington. The journeyman fullback is set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2021, so whether or not he returns to New Orleans is still unclear.

Returns from COVID list
Burton has been elevated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Amie Just reports.
Analysis: Burton has dealt with a few COVID-19 scares this season, but as of Wednesday, he has cleared the league's protocols. The 28-year-old should resume his fullback duties for Sunday's wild-card matchup.

In COVID-19 protocol, out Sunday
The Saints placed Burton on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, which means he is out for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: The entire Saints' running back room is considered high-risk close contacts after Alvin Kamara tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, Ty Montgomery is expected to be the primary back in Week 17, while Tony Jones will presumably get called up from the practice squad and Taysom Hill could see some more work. Burton is potentially available for the Saints' first playoff game.

No touches vs. Eagles, as usual
Burton played 11 percent of offensive snaps during Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Eagles, but he did not record a single carry or target.
Analysis: Burton hasn't touched the ball on offense since Week 9, and he has just five carries for eight yards and two catches for 15 yards on the season. The fullback plays a key blocking role in the run game for New Orleans, and he also contributes on special-teams, but he isn't worth fantasy consideration while operating in such a capacity.

Officially active Sunday
Burton is active for Sunday's game versus the Lions following a false positive COVID-19 test, Amie Just of NOLA.com reports.
Analysis: Burton tested positive Saturday night, but the Saints have determined it was a false positive, thus making him and the rest of the team available for Sunday's game. The 28-year-old fullback will gear up against the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

COVID re-test comes back negative
Burton's re-test for COVID-19 has come back negative, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Analysis: Per Underhill, Burton's point of contact test was also negative and he'll be able to play Sunday against the Lions. The report further adds that none of the fullback's teammates tested positive.

Tests positive for COVID-19
Burton has tested positive for COVID-19, according to NBC Sports Pro Football Talk.
Analysis: The Saints learned late Saturday that Burton tested positive after arriving in Detroit. Alvin Kamara was one of several players sitting next to Burton on the plane, according to the report. With the news of Burton's positive test, it's possible that Sunday's game between the Saints and Lions could be postponed to Monday or Tuesday, or moved past Week 4. Burton is obviously out for Sunday's game if it does move forward on schedule.

Lands in Big Easy
The Saints signed Burton to a one-year contract Friday, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports.
Analysis: Burton spent the 2019 offseason in New Orleans, but he failed to earn a spot on the team's 53-man roster. The veteran fullback will now get another shot at carving out a role with the Saints.

Comes up empty
Burton was held without a catch on one target in Sunday's 34-17 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: The veteran fullback has seen just one target and no carries in four games since he signed with Washington in October. Burton merely serves as an occasional blocker for Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice.
